Hole by Hole Guide
1st hole - Bobbys Challenge
A challenging opening par 4, hitting the fairway is a must with out of bounds on the left and gorse on the right. From the fairway it leaves an inviting shot into a sloping green.
2nd hole - Oak Tree
The longest par 3 on the golf course, with the larger of two bunkers guarding the right side of the green.
3rd hole - The Bottoms
A tricky par 4, a safe shot on the fairway short of the water an ideal position to give yourself a chance on this hole, but again be weary of the bunkers guarding this green.
4th hole - Cnoc an or
Irish for mountain of gold, but to strike gold on this hole you must first negotiate the problems off the tee such as the large fairway bunker on the right hand side, following that, two small pot bunkers guard the large green which has a sharp falloff on the left hand side.
5th hole - Murtaghs view
Tricky little par four, you must first thread your drive between the two fairway bunkers, right side of the fairway is favourable to put it close on this hole.
6th hole - Baile on locha
The hardest hole on the golf course, a good drive here makes it easier to negotiate the long second shot over the water into this 3 tiered green.
7th hole - Lynch’s Corner
This is a fantastic dogleg left. Just right of the fairway bunker on the left is prime position, leaving only a short iron in, for the longer hitters, taking it over the trees is an option leaving only a wedge in which can allow you to get aggressive to one of the trickiest green on the golf course
8th hole - Campbell’s way
An interesting par 3 guarded by two large bunkers on either side, missing this green left leaves the toughest recovery due to the raised green. The correct club is a must here as this is not another long 3 tiered green.
9th hole - Arkle
The longest par five on the golf course, you’ve got to trust yourself from the tee as you take aim left of the mound on the right. Following this thread your approach between the two fairway bunkers to give yourself the best chance of a birdie on this hole.
10th hole - The Slang
This stretching uphill par 5 can play long at times so avoiding trouble from the tee is a must, by favouring the right side of the fairway with your 2nd it can give you the best approach to some difficult pin positions on the left hand side.
11th hole - The Haggert
A long uphill par four, avoiding the two menacing fairway bunkers from the tee is a must to leave yourself an opportunity to hit a good approach to possibly the largest and most difficult on the golf course.
12th hole - Bpoll na croite
Don’t let the index fool you, this is one of the most deceiving holes on the golf course, with a hazard and out of bounds left, and trees right, finding the green can be a sigh of relief, but your work is not done yet, take caution with this tricky green.
13th hole - Coscan na Gcapaill
Out of bounds left and trees right make a difficult tee shot, but the approach only gets more difficult with water tight to the right side of the green and everything falling towards it, not to mention one of the most undulating greens on the course.
14th hole - Horse gate
The most difficult par 3 on the golf course, if the pin is at the back, make sure to hit enough stick or you could face an interesting putt.
15th hole - The Spur
This completes Navans own “amen corner” as some locals like to call holes 12 through 15, position yourself on the left side leaves the best approach and some room for error, and gives you a good chance to be aggressive.
16th hole - Hare Escape
Another long uphill par 4, make sure to avoid the bunkers and trees from the tee or you might be laying up to this one.
17th hole - Colonels runway
One of the more difficult driving holes on the course, favour the left side as it leaves the most room for error with out of bounds on the right.
18th hole - Troytown
A fantastic finishing par 5, favour the right side from the tee, but be aware of the gorse, this will give you the opportunity to get aggressive with your second so you can finish in style!!
